LEC Technology: Solutions cheap - OLED screen replacement "plastic"

The researchers have successfully developed a new type of display features a "bend" named LEC (Optical electrochemical cells), can substitute for the OLED " plasticity "that the cheaper price.

LEC screen is made based on the R2R solution.

There have been many studies focus on OLED displays and OLED technology "plastic" but to produce a screen capable of cheap plastic bending at this point is not possible because the cost is too great.

So, scientists’ researchers point created a new screen technology called LEC (Light-emitting electrochemical cell, the optical electrochemical cells) using flexible solution R2R (roll to roll) cheap during fabrication. R2R is the process of creating electronic devices on flexible plastic sheet metal or elastic and can make the big screen.

LEC screen panels have flexible structures similar to P-OLED (Polymer OLED) screen 3 thin films but LEC can steal more with a phase electrolyte LiCF3SO3. In fact, the LEC screen appeared 15 years ago, but due to the low efficiency and high cycle use should have not been paying attention. But with the new improved, more stable, mainly from the choice between the electrodes of the cell, the screen LEC technology was easier to produce and are willing to "step" into the market.

Although it is known OLED achieve higher performance, but because the cost is too expensive, so the researchers are trying to make the phosphorescent material is compatible with LEC technology to be equally effective with OLED. Currently the LEC screen reaches light intensity 10lm / W and time up to 5600 hours of use.

There were three Universities participating in this project and established companies LunaLEC facilitate research and commercial development of the technology in the future.
