Fire Core has released an update for Seas0nPass. Allows owners of a second-generation Apple TV with firmware 5.0.1 (IOS 5.1.1) perform an untethered jailbreak. The authors thank @ pod2g and friends for the many hours they have invested in it, making this new release of Seas0nPass possible.
Jailbreaking of an Apple TV 2 is required in order to allow the use of apps. Currently the following plug-ins supported: Couch Surfer, Last.fm, Maintenance, Media Player, NitoTV, Plex, RSS Feeds, Rowmote, Weather and XBMC. Overflow Remote and HD are not made to work.
The team of Fire Core is now only the third generation Apple TV jailbreak. Unfortunately, that seems a lot harder to jailbreak than the previous models. It is unknown when and if there is a jailbreak for Apple TV 3.
Seas0nPass is a free download of the Fire Core website. You need the Apple TV to your desktop computer to perform the jailbreak. It is the first untethered jailbreak Apple since the new interface for the Apple TV introduced (this happened in March 2012).
