Sony is withdrawing from manufacturing optical drives in 2013


Reports from Japan want the Sony to stop manufacturing optical drives for PCs on March 31, 2013 closing Optiarc, a company he founded along with NEC and fully acquired in 2008 to supply with Blu-ray and DVD drives to desktops and laptops market.


According to reports, Sony Optiarc will close due to huge competition, despite the fact that it holds about 15% market share worldwide, and the dismissal of approximately 400 employees of the subsidiary will be in a restructuring of Sony, because of which will lose their jobs around 10,000 people.
