It seems increasingly likely that Apple will introduce a smaller dock connector in the new iPhone. Not only essentially different sources on this, but the pictures of the possible leaked back of the new iPhone have a smaller opening for the dock connector see. A new job posting at Apple suggests that the iPod gets a new connector: Apple is looking for a Connector Design Engineer, representing different types of connectors for the iPod to manage. The vacancy makes the rumors about the iPhone something credible
Apple expects the following from the Connector Design Engineer:
“The Connector Design Engineer is responsible for managing multiple connector designs and developments for the iPod product line. Cross-functional development and consulting are a big part of your daily activities. As a Lead Engineer you are responsible for identifying good connection technology for new products and select the appropriate connection products. Negotiating with connector manufacturers to create and implement the necessary design or to create entirely new designs is also a big part of your daily work.”
The job has nothing to say about the iPhone, but it does seem to be closely related: the moment, many iPods since the same dock connector as the iPhone. Apple released a new connector in the next iPhone, it seems likely that in the next iPod will sit.
It is not clear why Apple would replace the dock connector. Earlier rumors suggested that it ensures that more space in the iPhone will sit for adding new hardware. For people with multiple iDevices means a new connection, however, that they for a time to walk around with multiple cables.
