iPad mini, thinner bezel edges and thickness as the iPod touch (;)

Today we had a new series of reports (apparent leaks from the PR department of Apple) on the famous iPad mini (or larger iPod touch if you prefer), to be presented with the new iPhone in the event of September 12.

The gist of the case this time is that the device has a thinner bezel on both sides of (like the iPhone) and the thickness of the iPod touch to 7.2 mm (!). The thinnest bezel on both ends makes it easier to grip the device for the smallest size and thickness calculated by John Gruber that would weigh about 265 grams (compare it with 652 grams of Wi-Fi only iPad 3).

The visual representation of this iPad mini iMore took the photo that you see in the above comparing the device with the iPad and iPod touch. In the photo below, in fact, you can see a mockup in the comparative thickness of these devices along with the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire:

One of the most interesting parts of these articles is that Gruber, which basically explains how Apple is promoting such a device in what would inevitably be seen as a "response" in the recent Nexus 7 of Google. Apple points out that sacrificing the quality of the screen (163ppi according to current calculations compared to 216ppi the Nexus 7) but much more than the cost: the overall design.

Perhaps the biggest factor in a portable device is the weight and thickness. In this section we saw that the iPad 3 gained more weight and thickness due to the Retina display. To iPad mini, however, weighing 265 grams and in thickness to only 7.2 mm is much more "portable" from the Nexus 7 is not much larger in size (thanks to the thinner bezel) and a larger screen.

Based on that a consumer who bought an iPad not because of its large size, weight and thickness compared with a 7 "tablet, will now have a much better alternative and enjoy the wide selection from the App Store and the overall ecosystem of the company. If Apple also offers a model with 3G connection (the Nexus 7 has not) and international availability (the Nexus 7 is only sold to USA, Canada, Australia and the UK at the moment) device prospects suddenly look much better.
