You have nice calculators for the iPhone and comprehensive calculators for the iPhone, but nice design and good functionality rarely go hand in hand. Archimedes is a new app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad that form and function in a successful way of combining. The smart application of Patrick Pineal visualizes equations, roots, triangulation, fractions and more.
The app differs from many other calculators for the iPhone by the large image plane for the more difficult calculations themselves. All the calculations that you perform with the app is displayed on a clear area of at most four lines above each other. The back is dark gray and does a little blackboard-esque, which is enhanced by the white imprint of the numbers and characters. Bottom of the screen houses a specially designed by Archimedes in the main panel with the standard calculator keys as multiplication, addition, subtraction, and of course the figures. With a swipe to the right magic you the advanced field for you, including the sine and cosine, square root, pi and more. You see the whole field buttons into the picture as your iPhone in landscape mode, but then deliver a line of the calculation screen.
The strength of Archimedes lies not in the design. The app excels in the fact that apart numeric with a sideways swipe also gives exact solutions, something many calculators for the iPhone leave. Giving precise answers is possible in expensive packages such as Maple and Matlab, which studies and work with professionals on the desktop, but here is the app is included. The difference is that you do not get to see the full simulation of the response.
Also impressive is the possibility of system of equations, so that the app immediately clears views in the screen above the keys. These are features that the 3.99 euros justify this app - it's not a price tag just for the design.
We asked where the app developer Patrick Pineal according to him different from other apps:
There are a handful of other apps that similar things can be, but they were me (1) is not tight enough, and (2) is not simple enough. Not only are they often unclear whether there are multiple screens to navigate through (like PocketCAS), but you usually need special commands or functions to enter what you want to do, including simplification, subst or solve. Archimedes states that automatically and let’s sees the answer as you type. I must admit that since this is only the first release, a number of other calculators even for walking as it is purely a range of features goes - although there with the updates that I have ever planned change can come. At the moment I mainly have sleek design, simplicity and ease of use. It was kind of my goal as much as I could to remove complexity for the user with more work to do on my side, with good conception and additional programming.
Archimedes is simple, stylish and effective. You can assume that we would have taken the app in the App List: 25 great educational apps for iOS and school, as he had just been released. Fortunately, the timing is still outstanding, as at the beginning of the new school and worked.
